#52ancestors No. 18 – Richard August Joachim Johannes Freytag

I am slowly catching up with the 52 ancestors challenge from Amy over at www.nostorytoosmall.com

This is my No 18. My 2nd cousin 3x removed Richard August Joachim Johannes FREYTAG.

He would celebrate his 130th birthday today. He was born on July 6, 1884 in Diedrichshagen, Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Germany as oldest son of Joachim Heinrich Claus FREYTAG and his wife Caroline Auguste Elisabeth née KABEN.

Three weeks later, on July 27, 1884 he got christened in the beautiful church of Diedrichshagen.

The same church he got confirmed in on March 26, 1899.

When I go back home to visit my parents I love to jump in the car and drive the roughly 30 km. There is a small bench on the church cemetary I like to sit on and to think about how my ancestors have been baptised or were married there.

The 1900 census record states him living as a farm labourer living in Diedrichshagen. It is not mentioned, but I guess he was working on his father’s farm.

On February 19, 1909 he married the farmer’s daughter Berta Wilhelmine Elise WARNKE from Kastahn, the neighbour village.

The couple had five children born between 1910 and 1915

  • Elisabeth Anna Emma Paula Auguste FREYTAG (* June 18, 1910)
  • Werner Joachim Hans Hermann August FREYTAG (* July 17, 1912)
  • Gertrude Wilhelmine Caroline Henriette FREYTAG (* October 16, 1913)
  • Hertha Dora Johanna FREYTAG (* December 11, 1915)
  • Magda Emma Margarethe FREYTAG (* December 11, 1915)

When you take a closer look at the birth certificate above, you can see a small stamped remark on the bottom of the record. There the registrar noted that Richard died in 1971  in Grevesmühlen, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany.
