March 13 – Friedrich Heinrich Karl Martin Hagedorn

The Russian Tsar Alexander I. dies of a bomb exploding at his feet on March 13, 1881. The underground organisation Narodnaja Wolja claims full responsibility for this attack.

The Butler Act from March 13, 1925 prohibits teaching the evolution theory of Charles Darwin in private and public schools in Tennessee, USA, since this theory relates the human descent to inferior beings.

On March 13, 1899 my third cousin 3x removed Friedrich Heinrich Karl Martin HAGEDORN was born in Boienhagen, Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Germany.

He received is christening on April 2, 1899 in the parish’s church at Diedrichshagen, Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Germany. The same church he got confirmed on March 16, 1913.

The 1900 and 1919 census shows him living with his parents Joachim Karl Johann HAGEDORN and Wilhelmine Maria Dorothea née WARNKE and four siblings in Boienhagen.

His father was a farm owner there and although Friedrich was the second oldest son he inherited the farm since his older brother got killed on the battlefield in France during WWI.

I am not sure when exactly he married but I found two children for him and his wife Getrude née NÖLCK

  • a daughter who died before her christening on November 19, 1931
  • a daughter born January 30, 1929 and died June 1, 1931

It must have been heartbreaking to loose two children within 5 months.
