January 16 – Elisabeth Maria Kranz

Being just 16 years old, Ivan IV. becomes first Tsar of Russia on January 16, 1547. He later became commonly known as “Ivan The Terrible”.

And on my family tree we meet my 2nd great grandmother from Schlutup, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany.

Elisabeth Maria KRANZ was born there on January 16, 1844. As far as I know she was the second child of the fisherman Hans KRANZ and his wife Lucia BADE. Her older brother was Claus Hinrich Kranz, whom I featured in my first post for the 52 ancestors challenge.

Elisabeth received her christening at St. Andreas (St. Andrews) in Schlutup on January 28, 1844. This is her baptism entry from the churchbooks.
