January 2 – Johann Joachim Tretow

On January 2, 1776 Empress Maria Theresia from Austria bans torture in her whole Empire.

The astronomer Charles Dillon Perrine discovers Elara, one of Jupiter’s moons on January 2, 1905.

The brother-in-law of my first cousin 5x removed Johann Joachim TRETOW dies just 4 years later, on January 2, 1909 in Dassow, Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Germany.

Johann was born as a farmer’s son on May 5, 1837 in Kastahn, Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Germany.

His parents Johann Joachim TRETOW and Sophia KOTH had two other children I know of so far.

Athough I haven’t found any wedding entry or data about children yet for Johann (the son), there has to be a family out there since the 1900 census states him being widowed.
