December 5 – Today in my family tree

December 5, 1560 – following the death of the 16 year old king Franz II his 10 year old brother Karl IX becomes new reign in France. As his legal guardian, his mother Katharina di Medici takes over the state’s affairs. Since she doesn’t experience a lot of support, the young widowed queen Maria Stuart returns back to Scotland in August 1561.

And on December 5, 1766 the London auction house Christie’s holds its first auction.

Let’s see what happened on this day on my family tree…

Heinrich Friedrich EVERT is born on December 5, 1849 in Upahl, Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Germany. He is the fourth of ten children of the cottager and small farmer Hans Joachim Heinrich EVERT and his wife Catharina Maria LEU of Upahl.

According to the 1867 census the whole family is living together in Upahl:

1867 census Mecklenburg-Schwerin

1867 census Mecklenburg-Schwerin

1880 he works as a farmhand on his father’s farm. He married Wilhelmina Johanna Maria Margaretha GREVE, a farmer’s daughter from Upahl on November 12, 1880 in Diedrichshagen.

I couldn’t trace them yet in the 1890 census.

He died before December 1, 1900 since Wilhelmina is stated as a widowed farmer in the 1900 census.
