December 3 – Today in my family tree

The southern part of the Territory of Illinois gets admitted to the Union, becoming “Illinois” the 21st state of the USA on December 3, 1818. The northern part becomes part of the Territory of Michigan.

On December 3, 1896 Herman Hollerith founded the “Tabulating Machine Company” which later merged to IBM.

And I have another wedding anniversary to share with you today.

On December 3, 1880 my 2nd cousin 4x removed Maria Sophia Dorothea FRAHM married her fiancé Engelhardt Joachim Heinrich GOTTSCHALK in Diedrichshagen, Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Germany.

Maria was born on October 12, 1857 as the second oldest child of the fee farmer Johann David Ernst FRAHM and his wife Maria Dorothea Anna TRETOW. In total, she had 9 siblings.

The 1867 census shows the whole family living in Boienhagen in the parish of Diedrichshagen.

Engelhardt was born on March 17, 1854 in Jassewitz, Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Germany as the oldest of three children of the fee farmer Joachim Heinrich Christoph GOTTSCHALK and his wife Maria Magdalena Elisabeth SCHRÖDER.

Since Engelhardt was the heir of the family farm, Maria moved to Jassewitz following their wedding.

They had two children I know of: one stilborn son in 1881 and a daughter born in 1882.
